Wind Rises

Wind Rises is a pneumatic device that can be attached to streetlights to absorb and collect the catkins of urban willows. By applying wind energy conversion technique, electrostatic adsorption principle, flexibale materials and other techniques, Wind Rises can bring back an easy-breathing environment to the city and create a new urban landscape.
01 Background & Research
Plant catkins floating in the air is a serious problem all around the world and it has passive effects on people`s life.
1.Inhaled into the nasal cavity will cause runny nose, cough, asthma and other life-threatening reactions.
2.Flammable catkins are easy to cause fire in the dry days.
Smell
In China, the phenomenon of willow catkins floating is mainly concentrated in the north, of which Beijing is the high incidence area, especially in March to May.
By learning on the causes of floating catkins, I can have a deeper understanding of this problem.
02 Idea Generation
Inspired by Bio-design principle, I try to find the solution from the nature.
That`s how I found jellyfish predation.
03 Design & Prototype
I scored each plan using the design goals as criterions. According to the contrast chart in the following, besides the less simple operation, the efficiency, energy resource, utilization of present facilities and beauty of plan 3 are the most prominent.
I continued to deepen the design of plan3 and detailed its engineering principles
Materials: resin 3D printing, PVC pipe, brass plate, plastic film, iron wire .
04 Outcome
After collecting the catkins, the sanitation workers will recycles the catkins from the Wind Rises using the High Speed Vacuum Cleaners on the cleaning vehicle.
After the catkins recycled and be processed into products, such as cushions and neck pillows, consumers can buy these products on a gadget.
